Cervids (Cervidae) are a family of ruminant, even-toed mammals characterized by the antlers of the male deer. A male deer is called stag or buck and a female deer is called doe. With roe deer, however, one usually speaks of buck and goat; with reindeer and elk, one speaks of bull and cow. There are some 40 species in 16 genera and four subfamilies.
Got out of bed early this morning (October), what a beautiful world still in mist and dew. Deer still busy with the bronze and the roaring could still be heard in abundance. Beautiful morning came home with some wonderful photos. See my folder for more photos of the red deer.
