Sipadan Island in Malaysia is one of the world's top diving spots, renowned for its rich underwater biodiversity and vibrant coral reefs, including the striking red coral. This small island, located off the east coast of Borneo, is Malaysia's only oceanic island, surrounded by steep underwater cliffs that plunge into the deep sea. The waters around Sipadan are crystal clear, making it an ideal location to explore colorful reefs, red coral, and numerous marine species up close.
Red coral, also known as Corallium rubrum, stands out as one of the most iconic elements of Sipadan’s reefs. Its vivid, deep red color adds a unique charm to the underwater landscapes, creating a mesmerizing sight for divers. Red coral serves as both a shelter and food source for many fish species, turtles, and other marine organisms. However, it is sensitive to environmental changes and needs careful protection. For this reason, Sipadan is a protected area, with strict limits on the number of daily visitors to help preserve its stunning marine ecosystem and the fragile red coral within it.
