About the artwork

*** Attention: Real photography - no AI! ***

Martin Luther was born and baptised in the Lutherstadt Eisleben. He also died here at the end of his eventful life. As part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Luther memorials with the birthplace, baptistery and death house in Eisleben convey the life and work of the reformer.

Lutherstadt Eisleben is located in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in the eastern Harz foreland in Saxony-Anhalt. It is known as the place where Martin Luther was born and died. In honour of the town's greatest son, Eisleben has been known as "Lutherstadt" since 1946.

Martin Luther was a monk of the Augustinian hermit order and professor of theology who became the originator of the Reformation. On 31 October 1517, Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on the practice of indulgences on Wittenberg Castle Church. The theses questioned the corruption and authority of the church and called for a debate. This marked the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.

Martin Luther was married to Katharina von Bora. At Wartburg Castle, under the protection of Frederick the Wise, Elector of Saxony, Luther translated the New Testament into German.
