About the artwork

Kitty Roosmale Nepveu
Lifeboat Scheveningen, KNRM (Royal Dutch Rescue Society)
SAR (Search and Rescue).
Photo was taken on the North Sea off Scheveningen in 2013.
The construction of the vessel was made possible by a donation from Mr Roosmale Nepveu. The christening was performed by Mrs Roosmale Nepveu, wife of the donor. The Kitty Roosmale Nepveu is named after the donor's mother.
ARIE FISHER CLASS LIFEBOAT
At 18.8 metres long, the Arie visser class is the largest rigid inflatable boat type lifeboat in the world. The boat has an aluminium hull and superstructure and is fully self-righting. The inflatable rubber rim (the so-called 'tube') gives the lifeboat extra buoyancy and stability.
All eleven lifeboats of the Arie Visser class were built between 1999 and 2009 by aluminium yacht building company Aluboot in Hindeloopen, with the exception of the Koning Willem I , which was built by shipyard Habbeké in Volendam.
From 1988 to 1998, the Lifeboat Company gained experience with the larger RIBs of the Johannes Frederik class. The radius of action of these lifeboats sometimes proved too limited. It was therefore decided to build a larger version of the Johannes Frederik. This became the Arie Visser type in 1999. The Arie Visser has a total tank capacity of 6,100 litres, giving the boat a range of sixteen hours full power. The fuel is distributed over four tanks. A separate day tank (144 litres) is located in the engine room area.
