When Laima Laučkaitė examined symbolism in Lithuanian art and tried to establish what distinguished Stabrowski's work from the work of Čiurlionis, she defined it as the difference between the teacher and the student, and described the two artists as symbolists of the first and second generation . According to her, Stabrowski remained faithful to realistic representation and created romantic allegories that appealed to even conservative viewers and critics (L. Laučkaitė, Vilniaus dailė XX a. Pradžioje, Vilnius, 2002, p. 150). His painting The Palace of Gold is a typical example of Central and Eastern European symbolism. It intrigues us by showing a parallel between the naked body of a woman and the imaginative forms of clouds, creating literary associations and opening wide areas for the imagination.
Kazimierz Stabrowski (Kruplanach, near Nowogródek, 21 November 1869 - Garwolin, 10 June 1929) was a Polish painter. He is mainly considered to belong to the symbolism and the sezession movement.
