About "Indian Kalamkari Flamingo"

by Frank Daske | Foto & Design

About the artwork

Kalamkari is a traditional Indian art form characterised by hand-painted or block-printed fabrics. The term "kalamkari" comes from the Persian word "kalam" meaning pen or pencil and "kari" meaning craft. This art form has its roots in the Andhra Pradesh region and in Tamil Nadu in southern India and is known for its colourful temple cloths produced in an elaborate process. The artists use natural dyes and a bamboo or date palm stick to paint the intricate designs and patterns on cotton or silk. Each piece is unique and reflects the rich narrative tradition and cultural heritage of India. This technique has been simulated here by an artificial intelligence to depict a flamingo.
