About the artwork

The ultimate lucky moment for any nature photographer, a European red fox hunting mice. After finally finding him, we followed him for a while to predict his behaviour (as far as that was possible) and I was able to take this picture. The fox did not bother us at all and thanks to the zoom lens, I was able to stay quite a distance away from him so he did not bother us.

This photo is part two of a triptych of this leaping fox in the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes.

A fox hunts mainly by using its keen senses and sneaking techniques. It moves silently and carefully through its surroundings, detecting sounds and movements of prey such as small mammals, birds, and insects. When a fox notices potential prey, it sneaks closer, often staying low to the ground so as not to be noticed. At the right moment, it jumps forward quickly and accurately to grab the prey with its beak. Foxes also use their keen sense of smell to find food and may wait patiently near a burrow or underground tunnel until prey appears. Their hunting techniques are flexible and can vary depending on the type of prey and the environment.
