At the beginning of the First World War, the painter paints a simple scene of a farmer with his wagon full of cargo and a dog. In front of it, two sturdy tractors, two cold-blooded draught horses traversing the streets. Alfred Ost (Zwijndrecht, 14 February 1884 - Antwerp, 9 October 1945) was a Belgian painter who drew and painted daily life in Mechelen from 1901. He lived in Rumst from 1892 to 1902 (in the old brewery building that now houses the culture department). He went to school at the Minor Seminary in Hoogstraten.
