Tienen or Tirlemont is a place and town in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant, in the north of the Haspengouws Plateau. Tienen is the largest municipality in the province.
In the summer of 1635, the town was taken, looted and burned by a combined French and Dutch army. As late as 1673, the Italian historian Galeazzo Gualdo Priorato described Tienen as "once one of the most flourishing [cities of Brabant], but now almost deserted and uninhabited".
