Peter (Petros, "(great) stone", "rock") (Galilee - Rome, c. 64) was, according to the New Testament, one of the 12 apostles of Jesus and leaders in early Christianity. His original name was Simon.

Peter is the patron saint of the abbeys of Bath and Berchtesgaden, Bremen, Chartres, Affligem Abbey and Dendermonde Abbey, Cologne, Trier, Las Vegas, the diocese of Jackson, Köpenick, Worms, Lessen, Leuven, Ostend, Puurs, St Peter's-Rode, Leiden, Maastricht, Moissac, Naumburg, Regensburg, Rome, the Church, Umbria, St Petersburg, the diocese of Providence, Obermarsberg the diocese of Philadelphia and Poznań, and further of the popes, bakers, butchers, bridge builders, penitents, masons, glaziers, joiners, locksmiths, blacksmiths, plumbers, clockmakers, at harvest, seal burners, stone cutters, potters, shoemakers, net and cloth weavers, fishermen and fishmongers, boatmen, shipbuilders.

Domenikos Theotokopoulos (Fodele, Kandia or Iraklion in Crete, Greece 1541 - Toledo, Spain 7 April 1614), commonly known as El Greco, was a painter who worked mainly in Spain.

After training in Crete in the art of icons, El Greco travelled to Rome, where he studied under Titian. His painting style belongs to Mannerism, an art movement of the High Renaissance.
