Praise is the name for a Catholic prayer service with singing, during which the Most Holy Sacrament (the Body of Christ in the form of the host) is adored. No Eucharist takes place during the praise and for this reason the praise is not a mass. The custom of praise dates back to the 13th century and became widespread in the 15th and 16th centuries. After the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), the celebration of praise declined in many places, or disappeared from church life altogether. Karel Boom (Hoogstraten, 3 April 1858 - Antwerp, 13 December 1939) (also called Charles Boom) was a Belgian painter. He had a preference for historical scenes and portraits. He later became a teacher at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp.
