The Dolomites is a mountain range in the Italian region of Trentino-South Tyrol. Typical of the Dolomites are the steep rock faces and peaks, created by erosion and weathering. It is a scenic beauty and in autumn the colours there are amazing. In 2009, the Dolomites were added to UNESCO's World Heritage List. The mountain range is split into two parts: the eastern and the western.
The Dolomites' highest peak, the Marmolada, is 3343 metres high. Around 15 more mountains reach the 3,000-metre mark. Three languages are spoken in the Dolomite region; German and Italian.
I took the photo when we started walking from the car park at the Tre Cime to the Cadini di Misurina. Along the way, more and more clouds appeared, preventing us from continuing.
